SNOO: buy, rent or wait for a sale?

Rent it. At $1,995 to buy against $599 for the six-month rental on happiestbaby.com, renting a SNOO costs about a third of owning one, and most babies have outgrown it by five or six months anyway. Buy only if there is probably a second baby coming and you have somewhere to keep a bassinet in between. You will settle this at 11 p.m. with a tab open, a due date six weeks out and a spreadsheet you started optimistically.
What it costs to buy
A new SNOO Smart Sleeper from Happiest Baby is $1,995. That includes three organic cotton SNOO Sacks, a sheet, a mattress and water-resistant cover, sleep specialist consults seven days a week, a one-year limited warranty, and nine free months of the Happiest Baby App Premium subscription. It is also the only infant sleep system with FDA De Novo authorization for keeping sleeping babies on their backs, which is what makes the number easier to say out loud.
What it costs to rent
The rental is listed at $159 to $599, and the gap between those numbers is the whole decision. Basic is $159 a month with a one-month minimum and you can cancel whenever you like. The 6-Month Special is $599 for six months, $355 less than paying monthly across the same stretch.
Either way the first charge is bigger than the sticker: your first rental fee, a $99.50 reconditioning fee, a $99 refundable deposit and tax, with return shipping at the end. Six months on the 6-Month Special is $698.50 before tax, and $99 of that comes back if the bed goes home in reasonable shape. A rental arrives with two SNOO Sacks instead of three, and Premium is free for the rental plus one extra month.

What waiting for a sale actually gets you
Happiest Baby took 30% off SNOO for Black Friday 2025, with up to 40% off selected smaller items. The Halloween sale in 2024 was 25% off, October 28 to 31, which put the bed at $1,271.25 against the $1,695 it cost then. Black Friday 2026 falls on November 27.
Thirty percent off today’s $1,995 is $1,396.50: a real cut, and still double what six months of renting costs. Waiting is worth it if you were always going to buy. It is not a reason to buy.
The subscription question
SNOO does not require a subscription. Remote control, basic sound, alerts, the motion limiter and the tracker are free forever. Premium adds Car Ride Mode, Level Lock, Weaning Mode and daily reports, and costs $19.99 a month if you are not the original buyer. That is the hidden cost of a secondhand SNOO: it saves you a thousand dollars, then charges twenty a month for the settings everyone talks about.

Prices and fees above were read on happiestbaby.com this morning. One catch: the brand’s own rental explainer still says “full retail price for SNOO is $1,695.00” and promises a “$580+” saving over buying. The store charges $1,995 today, so the real gap is wider than that page claims. A Certified Pre-Loved SNOO is listed on the HSA page with no price and is not in the store.
Questions parents ask
Is it cheaper to rent or buy a SNOO? Rent, unless you are having more than one baby. Six months is $698.50 before tax against $1,995 to buy, and a 30% Black Friday price is still $1,396.50.
How much is SNOO rental per month? $159 on Basic, with a one-month minimum, or $599 for six months on the 6-Month Special. Both add $99.50 reconditioning, a $99 refundable deposit, tax and return shipping.
Does SNOO go on sale for Black Friday? Yes, 30% off in 2025 and 25% off over Halloween 2024. Black Friday 2026 is November 27, and 30% is the deepest cut we have seen on the bed itself.
Does SNOO require a subscription? No. The free app tier runs the bed. Premium is included for nine months when you buy new and for the length of a rental, and costs $19.99 a month otherwise.
Can I pay for SNOO with an HSA or FSA? Yes, buying or renting, through Happiest Baby’s Truemed partnership, which the brand says averages about 30% savings. Some employers cover a six-month rental outright through the SNOO Employee Benefit Program, so ask HR before you pay for anything.
The verdict
Take the 6-Month Special. It is the cheapest honest way into the one piece of baby gear that reliably buys back sleep, and when you are done it leaves your apartment instead of your closet. Buy new on November 27 if you want two or three children and the storage to prove it. If your employer is on the benefit list, do that and spend the money on something that does not rock.
