Tonies just aged up, and it went straight to Goosebumps

The Toniebox has been quietly losing to the tablet since roughly the week your kid turned seven and decided the brown box on the shelf was for babies. Tonies has noticed. On September 25 it opened pre-orders on 14 new listings, and the two headliners are Goosebumps and Wings of Fire, both rated 9 and up.

What just went up for pre-order

The Goosebumps Book Tonies 4 Pack is $39.99 and runs 10 hours and 29 minutes across four of the original titles: Night of the Living Dummy, Say Cheese and Die, The Haunted Mask and One Day at HorrorLand. Those are the 1992 and 1993 books, which means the person most excited in your house may be you. Wings of Fire is the same format and the same $39.99, also 9 and up. Baby-Sitters Little Sister is $39.99 for ages 7 and up.

Then there is a Smithsonian one, which we did not have on the card. The National Museum of Natural History: Discovery Crew Pocket Tonies 4 Pack is $24.99, two hours and two minutes, for ages 5 and up, with tracks called Prehistoric Mammals, Museum at Night, North American Mammals and Underwater Volcanoes. Numberblocks and Around the World in 100 Words are the other two Pocket Tonies 4-packs at $24.99.

The single figures, and the bag

Four figures at $19.99 each: Donatello, who carries 45 minutes of Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for ages 7 and up; Disney Sofia the First: Royal Magic; Dino Rockstars; and Disney Baby: Peaceful Piano Sleep Music, which is rated 1 and up and is the only thing in this drop aimed at the age most people think Tonies is for. Ally and the Alebrije is the same $19.99 and is in Spanish.

The accessory is a Toniebox Lite Backpack at $24.99 in Arctic Blue, Berry Pink and Sunset Red, sized for the Lite with room for figures and headphones and elastic loops on the shoulder straps. Release dates are October 13 for most of it and October 20 for the rest, with Sofia the First listed for October 1.

Who should pre-order

If you have a second grader who has stopped touching the box, Goosebumps is the one. Ten and a half hours of it, in a format that works in the car with no screen and no argument, for the price of two hardbacks. If your oldest is four, skip all of this and wait, because a $39.99 pack rated 9 and up is money spent on a year that has not happened yet. And if you were going to buy the backpack, buy it with something else in the cart, because $24.99 for a bag to carry a speaker is a decision you make once and then live with.
