Stars Hollow now fits in a Polly Pocket

There is a version of fall that starts when the leaves turn, and a version that starts when someone puts the Gilmore Girls pilot on and the kids ask why the mom talks so fast. Mattel has built a toy for the second one. The Gilmore Girls Polly Pocket opens for pre-order today at $30, and Stars Hollow is inside it.

What is in the compact

The town square, mostly. There is a gazebo that lifts out and moves, Luke's Diner with the apartment upstairs, Doose's Market, and a Welcome to Stars Hollow sign for the people who need to see it. The three micro figures are Lorelai, Rory in her Chilton uniform and Luke in the flannel and the backwards cap, and they peg into spots around the square so you can stage the scene you are thinking of. Mattel also hid a tiny Taylor Doose in there, which is either a joke or a threat depending on your relationship with the character.

It is a Mattel Creations exclusive, which means it ships from Mattel's own collector store rather than Target, and it follows the Little People Collector Gilmore Girls set from August. Pre-orders open at 9am Pacific.

Who should buy it

You. The four-and-up on the box is a legal formality, and the kid who loves Polly Pocket will get more play out of the regular compacts, which cost less and have more moving parts. This is the shelf toy, the one that comes down for the fall rewatch and gets a coffee cup placed next to it. If you have a daughter who has started the show with you, it is a very good $30. If you have a four-year-old who has not, buy her the regular Polly and keep this one on your desk.
