L'ovedbaby's holiday pajamas now fit the dog

Someone has propped the phone on a stack of books, set the timer for ten seconds, and is now sprinting back to the couch while the toddler removes one sock. This is the holiday photo, and it will be attempted four more times. L'ovedbaby put up a collection built entirely around that minute on Wednesday: 34 new Holiday Thermal pieces that go from a preemie footie to a sweater for the dog.

What's in it

Four prints, all of them the same across the range: Twinkle Tree, Ginger Glow, Tinsel Train and Ornamini. The baby zipper footie and cap set is $50 and runs preemie-newborn to 9-12 months. The kids' long-sleeve pajama and cap set is $54, from 12-18 months up to a size 9. Women's is $95, men's is $100 in XS through XXL. Then a $34 blanket, a $12.50 smocked headband for the 0-12 month set, a $12 pet bandana that slides onto a collar you already own, and a $36 dog sweater.

Every set includes a knotted pom-pom cap. L'ovedbaby's own page says the cap is an accessory only and is not to be worn while sleeping, which is the sort of line that usually turns up in a footnote and here sits in the bullet list.

Thermal, not bamboo

The fabric is the actual news. This is GOTS-certified 100% organic cotton thermal, the waffle knit, rather than the viscose-from-bamboo everyone else drops in September. The baby footie has the two-way zipper L'ovedbaby builds into all its footies, which opens neck to ankle for dressing and ankle to neck for a change at 2 a.m. with one hand. There are zipper safety tabs at the neck and the ankle, a chrome, lead and nickel-free zipper, rubber-dotted grip soles on every size, and soft elastic behind the ankles so the feet stay where the feet go. Dyes are azo-free and the pieces are made in India.

The men's top is a three-snap henley with a chest pocket and side pockets deep enough for a phone and the remote, which the brand also says out loud. The drawstring works. If you are shopping it for a woman, L'ovedbaby tells you to size down.

Who should buy it

Buy it if the December photo is a fixed point in your year and you would rather your kid sleep in cotton than in polyester fleece. Thermal is warmer than a bamboo two-piece, so check your room before you commit the whole household. Skip it if you bought matching sets last year that still fit, because four prints is four prints and none of them is an argument. If you only want one thing, make it the $50 baby set: it is the piece that gets worn on ordinary nights in January, long after the photo is posted.
