The Cozy Coupe now matches your couch

The red and yellow car has been parked next to your sofa for two years. You stopped seeing it somewhere around month three. Guests never do. Little Tikes has finally acknowledged this, and its new Cloud Collection takes seven of the plastic classics, the Cozy Coupe first among them, and reissues them in white and cream.

What’s actually in it

Seven products: the Cozy Coupe, the Cozy Truck, the Easy Store Jr. Play Table, the Garden Chairs, the TotSports Easy Score Basketball Set, the Lil’ Wagon and the Jr. Explorer Wagon. Same molds, same toys, in soft white with cream trim instead of primary red and blue. The whole collection goes on sale September 15, and only on Amazon. The Cozy Coupe has been open for preorder since September 9.

The prices, once

The white Cozy Coupe is $64.99, which is exactly what the classic red and yellow one costs on Little Tikes’ own site. There is no neutral tax. Across the collection the range runs $27.99 to $99.99, with the wagons and garden chairs at the bottom of it.

What they didn’t change

The car is still the car. Ages 18 months to five years, a door that opens, a horn on the steering wheel, and the floorboard that comes out the month your kid’s legs get long enough to do the work themselves. The license plate still reads CZY COUP, and it still carries a 79 in the corner, because the Cozy Coupe launched in 1979 out of Hudson, Ohio and had passed 10 million cars sold by 2003. Little Tikes has quietly changed the color of one of the most-produced cars on earth.

The one we’d buy

If this is your first Cozy Coupe and it is going to live in the living room, get the white one. Same price, same car, and it is the difference between a toy you tolerate and one you stop noticing. If the car lives outside, get the red one. White plastic and a grass-stained yard are not friends, and the classic hides three seasons of driveway that cream will not.

The sleeper of the group is the basketball set, which is six feet of white pole instead of six feet of red and orange, and does more for a room than the car does. One thing to watch: this is Amazon-only, so if it’s meant for a birthday, September 15 is the date that matters.
